CDA Celebrates Digital Citizenship Week!
At Colegio Decroly Americano (CDA), we believe that teaching our students how to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly is just as important as any other lesson. That’s why we’re excited to announce our upcoming Digital Citizenship Week, running from Monday, October 14 through Thursday, October 17. This week is designed to empower students to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly online—both at school and at home.
What’s Happening at CDA for Digital Citizenship Week?
We’ve planned an exciting, interactive week of activities that will help our students become thoughtful and responsible digital citizens. Here’s what you can expect:
- Daily Digital Citizenship Lessons During Morning Meeting & Homeroom: Each day, students will dive into important topics like online safety, media literacy, and balancing screen time with real-life activities. These lessons will build a strong foundation for making smart choices online. Students will also meet fun and friendly characters like Arms, Legs, Guts, Feet, Heart, and Head, from the Common Sense Digital Citizens series. These characters will help make learning engaging and fun as students explore important digital citizenship concepts.
- STEAM Class Focus on Digital Citizenship: Throughout the week, every STEAM class will incorporate digital citizenship themes into fun and engaging activities. Whether it’s exploring how to manage device distractions or learning how to verify information online, our students will have hands-on opportunities to practice what they learn.
- At-Home Activities for Families: We know that teaching digital citizenship is most effective when it’s reinforced at home. That’s why we’ll be sending home digital citizenship activities for parents to do with their children. These activities will encourage conversations about how to stay safe, respectful, and smart online.
- Spirit Dress-Up Days: To add some extra fun and excitement, we’re combining Spirit Week with Digital Citizenship Week! Each day has a different theme that aligns with the digital citizenship lessons.
Exploring Digital Citizenship with Fun and Friendly Characters
This year, students will be learning the principles of digital citizenship through the eyes of the Digital Citizens, a group of fun and engaging characters introduced by Common Sense Education. Each character represents a key concept: Arms teaches balance, Legs encourages standing up for others, Guts shows how to be safe online, Feet helps students understand their digital footprint, Heart reminds us to be kind, and Head shows the power of curiosity. These characters make learning fun and accessible, helping students understand the importance of digital responsibility in an engaging and relatable way.
Join Us for an Exciting Week!
We encourage all CDA families to participate and support this week’s activities. By working together—students, teachers, and parents—we can build a strong foundation for smart, safe, and ethical behavior in the digital world.
Stay tuned for more updates and photos throughout the week, and don’t forget to join us in our spirit dress-up days!
